The Analysis and Planning Unit comprises a small team that provides a range of management information and planning support to facilitate informed decision-making, planning and policy formulation, and the overall strategic development of the university.
The unit also supplies statistical information to government agencies and a range of parties throughout the wider community. It is the initial point of contact on matters relating to statistical collections undertaken by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and the Queensland Office of Higher Education, and a contact point for all enquiries on student and staff statistics.
The unit is responsible for the design, maintenance and updating of information on its website, containing the official statistics of the University.
Located within the Rockhampton Campus (Building 67), the unit reports directly to the Executive Director (Corporate Services). It provides services to the Chancellery senior executive, faculty and other university managers, academic and administrative staff, committees, and other bodies within the university.
In carrying out its responsibilities, the Analysis and Planning Unit:
- produces a range of institutional statistics and undertakes data manipulation, analysis and interpretation to convert raw data into useful management information
- designs and undertakes statistical projections, modelling and other quantitative analyses involving institutional data
- develops and applies performance indicators and resource allocation/utilisation measures
- participates in preparation of university planning documents, discussion papers, and submissions to outside bodies
- undertakes planning-related investigations and studies
- provides consultation in relation to the supply, analysis and interpretation of university statistics and their planning implications
- provides advice to assist informed decision making, planning, policy formulation and the strategic development of the University
- responds to statistical information requests.
The Analysis and Planning Unit provides the following information:
- student and staff data provided to DEEWR
- QTAC admissions data (student preferences etc.)
- projections prepared for Institution Assessment Framework (IAF) portfolio
- data on student retention/attrition
- demographic profiles of the student population and of the regional catchment
- a range of other staff and student statistics and performance indicator data.
